AGP Annual Members Meeting Dec 12, 2021 – Summary

Dec 2021 Annual Members Meeting Summary

We kicked off with a welcome by President Bonnie Miller then introductions all around. She reported that AGP thrived and kept art alive in year two of the pandemic. Thanks to members and in collaboration with Sanchez Art Center staff, our 100% volunteer-run non-profit membership organization continued our mission to increase the awareness and appreciation of artists and their works. We creatively pivoted with each pandemic mandate to offer benefits we’ve come to expect, launched new opportunities, and streamlined processes. The 2021 Board was thanked and the 2021 Year was reviewed. We did a lot! Thank you to members for volunteering your time and skills, contributing ideas, exhibiting, attending shows and events, and promoting AGP. The election of 4 board members for 2022 was unanimous. The 2022 board and program was were presented. The floor opened for questions, comments, suggestions, and interest in volunteering. Several suggestions and questions were discussed. You’re invited to contact agp.artguild@gmail.com with your thoughts. Please see the Meeting Minutes for more information.

Hello to 2022 and New Upcoming Themes

Dear Members,

We have a special message to share for you from our long time gallery staffing coordinator, Charlotte Seekamp, who is now leaving the position. Her presence on the board will be missed! Thank you for all your hard work over the years, Charlotte!

From Charlotte:

Six years ago the amazing & wonderful Mary Harris passed her Gallery Staffing role over to me. It has been an honor to carry on this job that Mary did so well, but after 6 years I am taking a break. I want to Thank everyone who’s been so generous with their volunteer hours to staff these 2 hour spots which keep the doors open for visitors of the Sanchez Art Center. A really special Thank You to those who would regularly staff 2 spots during a show and those who answered requests when I was desperate to fill a cancellation. AGP members are the Best Volunteers in the world!!! And Thank You for making this an enjoyable six years of volunteering for me.

In 2022 AGP Staffing will use the online scheduler that most of you are familiar with when we needed to schedule drop off/pickup and visiting the galleries. You’ll continue to sign up at receiving with Bonnie Miller, Gallery Staffing Coordinator with a laptop, or via a link after receiving. Please continue to keep the Galleries open with your service of volunteerism.

We would also like to thank Bonnie Millerfor her time as president of the guild the last two years. She has brought a professional talent for team organization, and has helped to streamline our board. And welcome to Linette Morales, our new upcoming president, who, with years of experience helping to run the Sanchez’s day to day operations, always brings a wise perspective to our meetings.

We leave you with an overview of next year’s shows, so you can start dreaming about what to create with these themes.

The 2022 AGP Board Slate

Bonnie Miller, President and Election Chair, announces the uncontested slate for our annual voting on four elected Board members.

President (Officer) – Linette Morales

I joined the Board in 2019 as At Large elect, and in the same role in 2020 coordinated the first online pop-up exhibit and the Annual Members Show. This year as Vice President, I brought fresh ideas for member engagement – “Artist Spotlight” where randomly selected exhibiting members are interviewed and highlighted in the newsletter and website, and “Up For Grabs” an AGP Facebook Group page where members may exchange art materials. I again coordinated the Annual Members Show. Previously, I was the Interim Gallery Coordinator at Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts (MCCLA) in San Francisco before joining Sanchez Art Center as the Operations Coordinator. Some contributions include Street Team for promoting arts events, Facebook Group page for participating 50|50 artists, 50|50 exhibition program (booklet), and SAC community engagement art projects. I received a BA in Studio Arts from CSU East Bay and my medium is printmaking. I illustrated a published children’s book in 2014 and received awards from Coastal Arts League and MCCLA.

Vice President (Officer) and Secretary (Officer)  – Michele Trausch

I joined the Board in 2020 as an appointed AGP Liaison to the Sanchez Art Center Board. I worked on governance activities including compliance with State requirements and procuring appropriate insurance coverage, and co-led our Board governance training.  This year, I continued this appointment and activities as well as being Secretary elect.  I am eager to become even more involved in AGP and its mission by continuing these roles as well as Vice President.  I was pro bono counsel to AGP beginning in the early 2000’s until my retirement before joining the Board. I’m an art enthusiast, volunteer at receiving for AGP exhibitions, and very much enjoy participating in the activities at the Sanchez Art Center. I also volunteer in other local community organizations.

Member at Large – Jennifer Alpaugh

I joined the Board in 2007 and have been Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President, and President.  I am a studio artist at Sanchez Art Center working primarily in oil paint and cyanotype, and on the West Gallery Committee preparing AGP shows.  I received a BA in Art from UCLA and an MS in Organizational Psychology leading to my career at Pacific Bell, Pacific Telesis, and AT&T as Engineer, Quality Management Trainer, and Total Quality Design Manager.  I have volunteered with the Pacifica Resource Center Board, San Mateo County Civil Grand Jury, Project Read, Rotacare Clinic, Meals on Wheels, and Mizpah. I am a member of Tangerine Arts which exhibits in the SF Bay Area.  My art has been published in Operation Sunflower and Talisman, the Annual Magazine of Literature and Art.  Awards include: Merit Award, AGP Members Show 2015; First Place, Daly City Visual Arts Members Show, 2003; and Juror’s Award of Excellence, AGP Members Show, 2003.  My botanical cyanotypes are on permanent display in the San Pedro Valley County Park Visitors Center.

Announcing this year’s Winners…

The 63rd Members Show and 62nd Exhibition Award Show look fantastic, and the reception last nice was a great success.

Here are this year’s award winners! We look forward to seeing the exhibit next year featuring the four Exhibition Award, or Award of Excellence, winners…

Feel free to share the above postcard. Of note, Winter Art Faire will actually be from 11 – 5pm on Saturday the 11th of December, not just 1 – 5pm as it states on the postcard. Apologies for the confusion!

Current Members’ Projects

We wanted to take a moment to congratulate a few of our members, and share their current projects with the Guild.

Tangerine Arts presents Out of the Blue, through Oct 6 at Eccleston Inc, 205 Rockaway Beach Ave., here in Pacifica. Featuring art from members Jennifer Alpaugh, Melinda Lightfoot, Kathy Miller, Nancy Mona Russell, Charlotte Seekamp, and Sharron L. Walker. Drop by during business hours Mon – Fri to see paintings, photography, mosaics, and more!

Also we have a couple of artists who have recently published books!

Christina Conklin’s new book The Atlas of Disappearing Places
https://www.christinaconklin.com/Artist.asp?ArtistID=28333&Akey=YX679CJP&ajx=1#!Group1_Pf195718

Robert Regis Dvorak’s new book A Book About Nothing (currently featured on our Shop on the Shelf.) https://www.youcreate.com/youcreate/BOOKS.html

Also we would like to mention that the Handmade Pacifica event was a huge success! It was organized by our members Kristina Ayala and Daniele Derenzi. It was so festive, with so many lovely booths and so much traffic…And that lead to sales from our show as well as the Shop on a Shelf! A great day all around. Keep your eyes peeled for more Handmade Pacifica events in the future.

Congratulations to All!

This is the last weekend to visit Restructured. Just FYI, Sanchez’s safety protocol aligns with San Mateo and other Bay Area Counties that require the wearing of a face covering/mask indoors. The new restrictions affect all residents, not just those who are unvaccinated.

Hope to see you soon!

Artists Gathering: Inspiration

July 28th – 7 pm
Main Gallery – Sanchez Art Center

Welcome back everyone!

Please join us as we meet together once again! We will be discussing how we find our inspiration. Have you been able to find inspiration? Have you been creating a little or has your art hit a wall—or have you just been thriving better than before?

We haven’t been able to get together for quite some time, so it would be great if you could bring in a piece you been working on if you like. It will also be an evening of finding new inspiration for all the art we have yet to make.

We kindly ask that you wear your mask. Don’t forget to bring your jacket, the doors will be open for ventilation.

Hope to see you soon!
