Welcome!

Art Guild of Pacifica has been around since 1958. In 1996 the guild found a permanent home at Sanchez Art Center in the Pacifica Center for the Arts.  Our members usually show artwork in the West Gallery, unless it’s during our Annual Members Show or Winter Art Faire when we take over the entire art center.  As an all volunteer organization, we depend on our 150+ members to support our exhibitions and events with their time and expertise.

New members are welcome! To join, just click the green “Become a Member” box at the top of this page. Hope to see you soon at an opening or gathering!

AGP Members Are The Best Volunteers!

AGP members are the best volunteers in the world. In the little over a year since I took over scheduling the staffers for the Sanchez Galleries, I have found that Left Coast Annual and 50/50 are the most difficult shows to fill. This year several AGP members signed up for a spot when they were picking up work from the previous show – Lost & Found. Still, at the end of that artwork pickup, there were about 14 spots to fill. On Sunday, 4/9, about noon, just after I had put my laundry in the washing machine, I send out an email to the AGP members, listing the dates & times that were still open.

A few minutes after I hit send, I got a response – yay!!! Just after I had confirmed that one, another email popped up. I confirmed that one and then went to put my clean clothes on the clothes line in my backyard to dry. I pulled a few weeds while I was out in the backyard and when I came back to the computer, about an hour after I had left, there were two more emails – and one of those AGP members was willing to do two spots – my favourite kind of people!!!

More emails came in throughout the afternoon & early evening.
By 9 pm Sunday evening I had only 6 spots left – YAY!!!
I sent another email with those 6 spots listed and went to bed shortly after that. When I got up Monday morning I had 4 new emails. On Tuesday before 5 pm I had received two more emails filling up the last to vacant spots. YAY, YAY, YIPPEE, HOORAY!!!!!
Art Guild Members are the BEST Volunteers in the entire World. And for that I am so grateful. ~charlotte, Gallery Staffing Coordinator

Michael Risenhoover Announces Final Issue As Editor

Michael Risenhoover has announced that the Nov 2016 Dirty Palette (58th Members Show) is his final issue as editor. Art Guild of Pacifica appreciates Michael’s amazing and generous volunteer effort creating 32 issues of the Dirty Palette!
Michael joined Art Guild of Pacifica in May of 2009, volunteering on the West Gallery Committee. His expertise at gallery layout and installation was much appreciated, as well as his reliability and great sense of humor. Michael is a great guy, but pretty quiet and doesn’t say much about himself. It was months (maybe years) before many of us learned that, besides being a top notch photographer, great writer and early expert with social media, in his “former life” he’d been a Police Captain in Oklahoma.

Michael came on the AGP Board as Dirty Palette editor and webmaster when J.T. Morrow retired in March 2010. It was unlikely that Michael had any idea what he was getting into when he started, but he created 32 issues almost single-handedly, doing photography, writing, and layout. He did the transition of the Dirty Palette from a print newsletter to a digital publication, which was made available to members via email in full color. Michael also helped get the AGP into the 21st century by creating a Facebook page, Twitter account, and starting our MailChimp email notifications.

Thanks to Michael we have a lot of Art Guild history captured from 2010 through the final edition in November 2016. Check out some of these past issues on the AGP website at artguildofpacifica.org/dirty-palette-archives/

Michael currently volunteers to install the exhibitions of artwork in Pacifica Performances’ Mildred Owen Concert Hall. You can follow Michael on Facebook and Instagram to see his photos from interesting travels, winemaking efforts and life with his beautiful wife Julie.

Many thanks to Michael for all he has done for Art Guild of Pacifica!
