Virtual Artist Gathering – The Balancing Act of Social Media

Please join us on Zoom as we discuss balancing how to work social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook to grow and enhance your art. It is important to as an artist to have an audience and, in this day and age, we have the whole world in our hands! We will walk through the basics of showcasing your art and growing an audience.

You do not need to be on any of these platforms already to learn how they can help you. In fact, we hope that if you aren’t, this will be a start to getting you there. It is a balancing act, but it can greatly work in your benefit!

For your convenience, there will be two meeting times to choose from:

Wednesday, March 3rd at 7pm

Sunday, March 7th at 11am

Meeting details to come in an email next week.

In Memoriam – Beth Tocher

In Memoriam for Beth Tocher

Written by Linda Dever

This is a tribute to long time member Elizabeth (Beth) Tocher who passed away after a long illness on 5/11/20. Beth was featured in The American Collector book, at various Galleries in San Francisco, and the ArtWork artists group. She exhibited in most of our Art Guild of Pacifica shows and was often a gallery sitter.

She was born in Upper New York on August 14. I met Beth in 1987 when we both taught ESL at Westmore High School. She quickly became a close friend. We enjoyed many walks together at Pacifica Pier.
Beth produced over 100 paintings which showcased her unusual abstract surrealistic style. Her vibrant color was amazing. Although quiet and reserved she was very sweet, kind, witty, and intelligent. As my closest friend we shared showing our art together often.

We will miss you and I am sure you are painting rainbows up in heaven. I love you Beth. RIP.

2021 Board Slate and Annual Member Meeting

Hello, Art Guild,

Our annual voting of elected Board members will be during our virtual Annual
Member Meeting on Wed. Dec. 9th @ 7-8pm.

Charlotte Seekamp, Election Chair, announces the uncontested slate for 2021:

President (Officer) – Bonnie Miller

I’m 2020 elected President, a long time AGP member, a Board member for several years including appointed Liaison to the SAC Board, appointed Bylaws Committee Chair 2014, and elected Vice President 2019. This year, we successfully pivoted AGP to virtual – galleries for our shows, our first popup show on Facebook, an Artist Gathering, and Board Meetings. I also led a review and update of our organizational infrastructure including legal and government filings, insurances, contracts, and archives; and led a board governance training.  I like to experiment with different mediums in my artwork, most recently making miniature books, and have exhibited at AGP and elsewhere. I consult in clinical research management and compliance, maintain my RN license, and was Pacifica CERT trained in February.

Vice President (Officer) – Linette Morales

I’m an artist with a BA in Studio Arts. I worked at the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts in San Francisco becoming the Interim Gallery Coordinator before joining the Sanchez Art Center and becoming Operations Coordinator. Contributions at SAC included Street Team for promoting arts events, Facebook Group page for participating 50|50 artists, 50|50 exhibition program, and community art events. During my first year on the AGP Board as appointed At Large AGP member, I coordinated the first online popup exhibit and the Annual Member Show, and have brought fresh ideas for member engagement this year and next. I have received awards in Mission Cultural Center and Coastal Arts League exhibits, provided an image or illustrations in two publications, and contributed to the Dia de los Muertos Altar 2020, Calle 24 Historical District Organization San Francisco.

Secretary (Officer) – Michele Trausch
I joined the Board last year as an appointed AGP Liaison to the Sanchez Art Center Board and am eager to become even more involved in AGP and its mission. I was pro bono counsel to AGP beginning in the early 2000’s until my retirement. During my year on the Board, I worked on governance activities including compliance with State requirements procuring appropriate insurance coverage.  I’m an art enthusiast, volunteer at receiving for AGP exhibitions, and very much enjoy participating in the activities at the Sanchez Art Center. I also volunteer in other local community organizations.

Member at Large – Parva Zarei

I am an artist, writer, environmental microbiologist, and book author incorporating my paintings. Last year I exhibited at the Burlingame Park and Recreation Center and at the Hillsdale Mall where I received Honorable Mention for one of my paintings. I was a member of the Burlingame Art Society and EnCorps STEM Teachers Program. I was a CVS pharmacy tech, and volunteered at the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History, Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History and Santa Cruz Homeless Garden Project. I began exhibiting and volunteering with AGP after joining this year, and would love to use my skills on the Board to support the artists, mission and activities of  this amazing AGP community.

The Zoom invite with be sent in advance of the Meeting. Voting for an uncontested slate is by show of hands of active members, and the other roles are appointed annually.  Please join this meeting of the 2020 Board, the 2021 slate, and other members. We’ll also report on 2020 accomplishments, plans including 2021
exhibit themes. There will be time for questions, answers, suggestions, and comments.

Kind regards,

Your 2020 Board:

Bonnie Miller, President

Misha Flores, Vice President and Communications

Daniele Derenzi, Treasurer,  Gallery Store, and Gathering of Artists

Charlotte Seekamp, Immediate Past President

Nancy Russell, West Gallery

Kathy Miller, Membership

Linette Morales, Member at Large

Gale Frances, Liaison to SAC Board

Michele Trausch, Liaison to SAC Board

Arthur Takayama, President of SAC Board

Your Art Is Important

Hello, Art Guild,

We know there is a lot on everyone’s minds lately. Art may be the last thing on some of your minds. But art is a beautiful way to rise above these dark times, to maintain our dignity and celebrate what is wonderful about being human. No work is too small. No work is futile. Artists do not merely survive, we create beauty out of our struggle. It has never been more important to keep creating and sharing your vision. Now is the time to share your work!

Exhibit your artwork and celebrate our 62nd Annual Member Exhibit Nov 6 – Dec 13. DeWitt Cheng, art writer and independent curator, will select 4 Exhibition Awards showcased in the Main Gallery during next year’s Annual Members Exhibit, and additional cash awards.

Come to the virtual Artist Talk Sunday Nov. 22 when 2020 Awards will be acknowledged and 2019 Exhibition Awardees will be featured.
